"QUEEN
Queen emerged in its present form when bassist John Deacon joined the then-developing group of Brian May, Roger Taylor and Freddie
Mercury in 1971. After crafting their sound and developing their stage show in closed rehearsals and at private concerts for friends
(bypassing the pub scene) the British band released its first album Queen in 1973, featuring the hits 'Keep Yourself Alive' and
'Liar.' This polished yet powerful debut was soon followed by Queen II in 1974. After the group's first American tour was cut
short by Brian May's illness Queen returned to England and recorded Sheer Heart Attack with its stinging single 'Killer Queen.'
The group's next American tour, its first as headliner, thrust Sheer Heart Attack into the U.S. top ten. In 1975 Queen's first
album to go platinum, A Night at the Opera, appeared (all previous albums had become gold). The six minute 'Bohemian Rhapsody'
became a worldwide hit, remaining number one for ten weeks in Britain, and was voted, in 1977, the best phonograph record of the
past twenty-five years."
