Chief Gall belonged to the Hunkpapa, a famous band of the Teton Sioux Indians. He took a leading part in the great ceremony
inaugerating Sitting Bull as Chief of the Sioux, which was an attempt to reunite the whole of the Teton Sioux nation against the
encroachment of the white man. Gall was one of the chiefs sent as delegate to Fort Rice to sign the Treaty of Loraine, establishing
a great Sioux reservation. Under the influence of Major McLaughlin, he also tried to destroy the power of Sitting Bull, but although
a brave soldier, did not succeed in this attempt. In 1888, at Standing Rock, Sitting Bull opposed the selling of land, thereby
saving millions of acres for the Indians.
