The Indians of this tribe called themselves 'Absaroke' (Ab-sar-oke) meaning 'crow,' 'sparrowhawk,' or 'bird people,' and were a branch of
the great Sioux. King of the Crows was one of their most famous chiefs, noted for reckless valor. Their history was one of perpetual
war with surrounding tribes, throughout the region of the Rocky Mountains, their chief enemies being the Siksika and the Dakota.
They were skillful horsemen, throwing themselves on one side of their horses when they attacked in battle, as is done by many Asiatic
tribes. So many and various are the hints which point to the Asiatic origin of the North American Indian, that this subject is one
of fascination to scholars.
