Many Horns was a chief of the famous and dreaded Blackfeet Sioux. This tribe, more than 200 years ago, were a timber people, inhabiting
the forests near Lesser Slave Lake, in what is now the province of Alberta. The powerful Chippewas, however, making unceasing war
upon them, forced the Blackfeet Sioux steadily southward until they reached what is now Montana. Here they found vast herds of
buffalo, elk, and antelope in exhaustless abundance, and became more or less settled plainsmen. They were noted, nevertheless, for
their fierce love of incessant adventure, taking expression in endless wars, and a passion for horse-stealing. Life was never tame
for the Blackfeet Sioux.
