Striker was one of the most dreaded chiefs of the great Apache nation, a large group of tribes who were the fiercest of all Indians.
They were early known to history, Onate mentioning them as a terror in 1598, when he encountered them in east New Mexico and west
Texas. There is no evidence that they reached so far west as Arizona, however, until the middle of the 17th century. From the time
of the Spanish colonization of New Mexico until twenty years ago, they have been noted for thier inexorable warlike disposition,
raiding whites and Indians alike.
