Rushing Bear was a well-known chief of the Pawnee, a tribe dwelling in rude hut villages when, after amany wanderings, they finally
established themselves in the valley of the Platte River, Nebraska. Through all of the difficulties between the Indians and the
United States in the 195h century, the Pawnee never made war on the government. On the contrary, they gave many proofs of forbearance,
and Pawnee scouts faithfully and courageously served in the United States Army against other Indian tribes. They were famous for
their pottery and weaving. Finally placed upon a reservation, they diminished in numbers and vigor.
