Always Riding was a chief of the Yampah Ute tribe, formerly occupying the entire central and western portions of Colorado and the
eastern portion of Utah. They were a war-like people, and, as the name of this chief implies, came into the possession of horses,
which intensified their aggressive and defiant spirit. There were seven Ute tribes, but little is known of their social or political
organization, beyond the fact that they practiced agriculture to some extent. By a treaty of 1886, a reservation for the Yampah and
other bands was created in Colorado, and the remainder of their lands relinquished.
