| Already an established country-music star, Ferlin zoomed to the top of the pop field with his recording of "Gone." The platter was so popular that it sold over 1,000,000 copies and heralded a new career for the ex-sailor. In the '40's Ferlin built a reputation as a comedian and singer and his first big break came when he substituted for Ernie Ford on the Tennessee Ernie TV show. |
