Soldiers Fall As Battle Rages On
'Northern troops led by General Grant met the Confederae force with a violent crash today. The shocking figure of 12,000 dead in one
day of combat has stunned the nation. Battling for just one square mile of land, both Armies have had to sacrifice many of their
bravest young men. From the Southern Camp, an endless stream of wagons continue to carry the wounded back to Richmond. Northern
casualties are pouring into Washington's hospital for aid. The Confederates used fire to turn back the Northern attack during the
day. Setting part of the area ablaze, the Union soldiers were temporarily halted. When the fighting started again, the North's
General Barlow led a fresh division of men into Spotsylvania and pushed the Rebels out.'
