We don't know at this late date whether the American Beauties set was issued with gum, but most likely - given the
small series size and lack of cards found with gum residue - it was not. We do know it was sold in tobacco shops and other markets
to mainly adult male consumers (especially servicemen), in packs and nine-card sheets. The graphics on the cards can also be found,
with slightly different lettering, on larger Mutoscope arcade cards, which seem to be more common. American Beauties is one of the
more sought-after wartime card issues - especially given its subject matter of curvaceous young women. Its reference number is R59.
